Talk:WI Kenosha Petrifying Springs Park Trails
From Trailville
Part of Trail may be Closed
The section of trail located along the Southeast edge of the Golf course may be closed. This is the section that ran right on the edge of the golf course since the river eroded away the old trail. Looks like the parks department intentionally piled a whole lot of brush and logs there to block access. I don't use this specific section too often so it may be a while before I provide another update on this.
Trail Reports
--Dave 12:34, 18 July 2008 (CDT) Some sections of trail are becoming rather overgrown (happens every year) but other than that the trails are in real good shape though there are some small isolated mudholes.
--Dave 11:15, 13 June 2008 (CDT)Most trails along the river were submerged under several feet of water earlier this week and remain very muddy. Mountain biking would definitely be a no-no under these conditions, and hikers would also do well to give the trails some time to dry out.
--Dave 10:43, 15 September 2007 (CDT) 1st time back out here since the heavy rains and flooding of a few weeks ago. Most of the trail is dried up nicely though there are still some occasional mud holes. Quite a few new blowdowns to challenge your bike skills and some new missing pieces of trail along the river. Someone has already been out doing some prep work on the blowdowns and eroded areas (nice work whoever you are). Skeeters are still bad and the flesh eating plants are still around but are starting to recede a bit.
--Dave 17:57, 13 July 2007 (CDT)Despite some recent rains, the trails were still nice and firm, though there were some occasional mudholes primarily on the UW Parkside land on the trails south of the river. As normally happens this time of year, some sections of trail are getting a little overgrown with flesh-eating plants, this is mainly on the Parkside Land in the low lying areas near the river.
-- posted by Teri Hart, 27 May 2007: The trail is wet and muddy from the recent rain. While probably not great for mountain biking, the trail is still fine for hiking, providing you come prepared to get a little muddy. We saw many woodland species in bloom: jack-in-the-pulpit, blue phlox, wild geranium, garlic mustard, solomon's seal, jacob's ladder, and, of course, lots of dame's rocket.
--Dave 17:49, 24 April 2007 (CDT) All trails have firmed up nice for mountain biking or hiking. There are still some muddy sections, but overall the trails are in normal summer conditions now(no more winter mud). There is a lot of rain in the forecast so conditions will change temporarily, but should dry up again with a few dry days.
--Dave 10:03, 7 February 2007 (CST) Groomed Ski Trails on Golf Course They groomed ski trails on the golf course for a race last saturday, so get it while it lasts.
